In the centre of the island, nestled in a peaceful valley between impressive twin foothills south of the Tramuntana mountain range, we find the picturesque village of Alaró. Alaró is a culturally diverse village of around 5000 inhabitants located in a well-connected area. It is situated only a 20 minute drive away from Palma city, various beautiful beaches, golf courses and the island’s international airport. International schools are also nearby. It is a small yet lively village with a rich and interesting history, of both Moorish and Catalan influences. It was once an industrial village being the hub of the shoe making industry on the island, with over 30 active businesses. Today it still holds the Tony Mora workshop which is renowned worldwide for its handmade cowboy boots. Another interesting fact, especially for history enthusiasts, is that in 1901 it was the first village on the island to have an urban electricity network. The factories’ old tower was named monument of cultural interest a hundred years later.
Alaró is not a major tourist destination, however, it still offers numerous attractions and activities to discover. Due to its tranquil atmosphere it has kept its original charm. It is a quiet and peaceful village with narrow, cobbled streets leading along houses of preserved historical architecture, some modernised with period features. On its bustling, quaint town square one finds three landmarks, the church, our Engel & Völkers office and the town hall. Also, one can enjoy the island’s traditional cuisine while dining outdoors in one of the restaurants or take delight with Mallorcan specialities in one of its cafés. Close by there are also banks, chemists and supermarkets. On its outskirts one can find fabulous, stone fincas surrounded by extensive olive and orange groves or modern townhouses. There is a choice for everyone in this splendid location with prices ranging between 1.5 and 1.8 million euros on average.
