Petra: Location and surroundings of this property

The sleepy town of 3,000 inhabitants, decorated with sand-coloured houses, is located in the centre of the island, known as the real Mallorca. Petra is best known as the birthplace of Fray Junipero Serra, a missionary who some claim founded California. Every Wednesday morning there is a market. Petra's autumn fair is held on the third Sunday in September. There are also smaller festivals during the summer months. Petra's surroundings are sprinkled with windmills, reflecting Petra's association with grain cultivation. Today, vineyards also thrive on the fertile land and visits can be arranged for tours and tastings. There is a small hill on the outskirts of Petra with a small church, the Ermita de Bonany.
