The beautiful old town of Pollensa has a population of more than 16,000 and is part of the Municipality of Pollensa, that also includes Puerto Pollensa and Cala San Vicente. The town is 6 km from the coast and 58 from the airport and the capital Palma de Mallorca. The old town is characterised by narrow streets and the old market square. The town has a medley of cafes, bars, eateries and small hotels. Pollensa offers a special insight into the Mediterranean lifestyle that has evolved over the centuries, it is a town with history that values its traditions and customs. In the early 1920s, Pollensa became a popular destination for famous painters, writers and musicians who visited the island. Today Pollensa continues to be important to the cultural and art worlds promoting and hosting concerts and exhibitions of relevance, such as the International Music Festival held during the summer months. The event calendar is busy in Pollensa the most notable occasions being the festivals of Sant Antoni in January the Easter celebrations and the week-long festivities of the patron saint ‘La Patrona Mare de Déu dels Àngels’ from the 26th July to and including the 2nd of August. Also well worth visiting is the wine fair in April and the Sunday markets held every week.
